It has been a day since the Student Congress Occupation on 18th March. People around Taiwan started to join in the battle field. Within and outside the Legislative Yuan, there were thousands of protesters. They demanded the government to renounce the closed door Cross-Straits Service Trade Agreement (CSSTA). In the wee hours of 19th March, the police started their first attempt to clear the students from the congress hall. Several assaults were made by the police later on, but their attempts were futile.
During the protest, the student members from the Black Island Nation Youth Front (BINYF) has three claims,
First, President Ma should apologise for signing the agreement and retreat the police force from the congress immediately. At the same time, Premier Jiang should resign at once for his actions of disregarding the legislative rights of its citizens.
Second, Mr Chang, being the member of Home Affairs Committee of the Legislative Yuan under Kuomintang (KMT), acted inappropriately in presiding over the review meeting, and that therefore the meeting should be invalid. The government should renounce the CSSTA.
Third, Legislative Yuan should establish laws on supervising agreements between cross-strait agreements. Cross-straits meetings and negotiations between the officials should halt before proper supervision is in place.
