The National No-nuke Movement Platform formed by several environmental conservation groups called for a rally yesterday. They named the rally “End Nuclear Power, Return Power to the People.” The road march started on Ketagalan Boulevard. The rally groups appealed to the crowd to join their “noncooperative movement” as they passed by Zhong Xiao West Road. They occupied the road, and had sit-in until the wee hours. At about 2am, the police started to drive away the crowd by force. They activated the water truck and fire water on them more than 40 times. Many people were injuries. Even some reporters who stayed on the overhead bridge were brutally chased away, leaving their equipments damaged. The whole evacuation last until 7:30 in the morning.
The Taipei city mayor, Hou Long-Bing, ordered that he will clear up the occupied roads by all means as they are the main traffic pass ways of the city. He hoped that the citizens can resume their work normally on the 28th. The police started to make moves at about 2:30am. They pushed the crowds towards Control Yuan from Zhong Xiao West Road. The conflicts between the police and crowd came to a standoff on the Zhong Xiao West Road. As a result, the police assaulted the crowd with strong water gun several times.
